In the 14<sup>th<\/sup>\nCentury, John de Surrenden married Agnes de Pluckley who was the heiress of the\nManor of Pluckley. This entitled John to the possession of the manor. In 1371,\nthe son of John and Agnes, John de Surrenden, who was living in Pluckley,\nerected a new mansion on the site of the old Pluckley mansion and called it\nSurrenden. It is possible that the Bethersden manor was called Old Surrenden\nfrom this period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(See <a
